How We Calculate Engagement

Each platform measures engagement differently, but we normalize these into a single metric:
PlatformWhat We Count
TwitterLikes + Retweets
RedditUpvotes
InstagramLikes
FacebookLikes
TikTokLikes
YouTubeViews
TelegramForwards or Views, depending on the post type
ThreadsLikes
BlueskyLikes
DiscordChannel Subscribers
WeiboLikes

Important: Snapshot Timing

Engagement metrics are captured at the time we ingest the content. This means:
  • Numbers reflect engagement at that specific moment
  • A post ingested early may show lower engagement than its current state
  • Posts continue accumulating engagement after ingestion
Best Practice: Use engagement data alongside reach metrics for the full picture. While engagement shows interaction levels at capture time, reach metrics help you understand the total audience exposure over time.

Engagement Levels

We classify content into three engagement tiers: Low Engagement (< 250 interactions)
  • Standard display
  • Typical for niche content or new posts
Medium Engagement (250-500 interactions)
  • Yellow background highlight with a 2-bar signal icon
  • Content gaining traction
High Engagement (> 500 interactions)
  • Red background highlight with a full signal icon
  • Viral or highly popular content

Keep in Mind

  • Platform differences: 500 YouTube views vs 500 Twitter likes represent different audience behaviors
  • Timing matters: Newer posts naturally have lower engagement
  • Audience size: Large accounts typically see higher engagement numbers
  • Context is key: Consider what’s normal for each platform and account
  • Combine metrics: Use both engagement and reach data for comprehensive analysis
