How We Calculate Engagement
Each platform measures engagement differently, but we normalize these into a single metric:| Platform | What We Count |
|---|---|
| Likes + Retweets | |
| Upvotes | |
| Likes | |
| Likes | |
| TikTok | Likes |
| YouTube | Views |
| Telegram | Forwards or Views, depending on the post type |
| Threads | Likes |
| Bluesky | Likes |
| Discord | Channel Subscribers |
| Likes |
Important: Snapshot Timing
Engagement metrics are captured at the time we ingest the content. This means:- Numbers reflect engagement at that specific moment
- A post ingested early may show lower engagement than its current state
- Posts continue accumulating engagement after ingestion
Engagement Over Time
The metrics above are point-in-time snapshots captured at ingestion. For Twitter mentions, you can opt in to live tracking of an individual Tweet to see how its engagement evolves over the first week after it’s posted, including a time series chart of views, reposts, favorites, and replies. This is currently only supported for Twitter / X. Learn more in Tracking Tweet Engagement.Engagement Levels
We classify content into three engagement tiers: Low Engagement (< 250 interactions)- Standard display
- Typical for niche content or new posts
- Yellow background highlight with a 2-bar signal icon
- Content gaining traction
- Red background highlight with a full signal icon
- Viral or highly popular content
Keep in Mind
- Platform differences: 500 YouTube views vs 500 Twitter likes represent different audience behaviors
- Timing matters: Newer posts naturally have lower engagement
- Audience size: Large accounts typically see higher engagement numbers
- Context is key: Consider what’s normal for each platform and account
- Combine metrics: Use both engagement and reach data for comprehensive analysis
